Trying to Stay Alive

So.... I went to the doctor today for a checkup. It was actually a follow up because I was in such sad shape when I went for my real checkup. I've had two follow-ups with another scheduled for May 20th - and I need to make some serious progress or my doctor will look at me all owly again.

These are my issues: Blood Pressure is high (on medication); Cholesterol is high (was on Zocor but it made my whole body unbelievably achy); weight is high; have osteopenia in my lower back.

The stats as we know them:
BP 120/82 (normal on medication)
Cholesterol: 162 (down from 279!!!)
Triglicerides are still high: 205
HDL: 32 (needs to be 55+)
LDL: 89
VLDL: 41.0
Weight: 224

I have to go get my lipids retested before my May appointment. I am off Zocor and taking Niacin (time-release prescription), aspirin, Lotrel (BP), and 1500 calcium a day. I hate taking pills and want to be off them by this time next year. In the meantime, I have about 94 lbs to lose to be at my ideal weight. Once I get to about 150, I'll re-evaluate and suspect that 140 will be closer to a good weight for me.

This is the actual reason I wanted to start a blog - but you never know exactly what will come out of your fingers when you sit down to a keyboard. So this blog will be a little bit of everything: pictures, essay-type musings, and a log of my health progress. I figured that if it were out there in public I would be a little more likely to follow through with what I need to accomplish. I know what to do but need to actually do it. My motivation is staying alive long enough to see my son grown and beyond and be an active, healthy person while doing it!!!

Wish me luck and say a little prayer... everything helps!

I have poor HDL too. But WAY TO GO on getting the bad cholestorol down.

What activities did you like to do as a child? This might help you figure out ways to get active. Sounds like a lot of these issues could be reduced from going outside and playing hard! :)

I loved to ride my bike and explore. I still do, but it's finding the time that stumps me. One of my goals for this year is to find out exactly where my time DOES go. Why am I not accomplishing the things I want to accomplish? When I quit smoking, I suddenly had more time than I knew what to do with. Life has a way of filling it up...
