Are we lemmings?

I was driving to work today after dropping my son off at school and saw, waiting at a bus stop, a mohawk straight out of the 80s. You know the one - with five big spikes as long as your elbow to your wrist sticking straight out of your skull. But instead of the billions of piercings that went with the hairstyle, this young man was wearing what I call the Vulcan earphone. Head to toe black clothes.

An interesting statement, but what is it that he's saying? I want a career in an off-brand video store? In an adult bookstore? Grease monkey in the punk part of town?

Sooner or later, everyone who achieves some level of maturity realizes that they need to conform a bit in order to fit in and have a job that actually makes them a living. The exceptions are far and few between. This young man is right on the cusp of that decision.

Sure would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of his life.

Be sure to psychically transmit to him that you can compromise.

When my Aeon Flux bangs are at full length, I'm putting in a cobalt blue streak. Seriously. Having blue hair is something I always wanted. So I don't do the whole crown, just a bang highlight. Still counts.

Cool! I always liked the skunk streak in JoBeth Williams hair in "Poltergeist". There was something a little bride-of-frankenstein about that streak that spoke to me.

He really reminded me of my trip to England back in 1980. Of course, London was the hub of the punk rock world then and I was riding the "tube" with lots of mohawks and piercings. One guy had an earring with a chain that went to his nose ring. I remember thinking that he needed to take up a link or two because the chain seemed a little too long and would catch on stuff. That would hurt!

I actually thought bus stop hair was a little on the conservative punk side, but then I've actually seen the real thing...

Me? every now and then I want to shave my head. Hair can be such a hassle.

Natalie Portman set that trend just now in V for Vendetta. You can blame peer pressure.

Sheesh - I WISH Natalie Portman was my peer.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is my birthday and I will be 44. Actually, I'm very happy right where I am.
