I came home to an empty house today. Armloads of groceries to carry in myself. Wondering where the boys are...
Just as I finished putting away the last item, they got home. My son came in all sweaty and glowing with a beaming face. He gave me a huge hug, then stepped back and said "Guess what I did today????" Whatever it was, he was really happy about it! Then his daddy sauntered in with a very proud look on his face.
"I rode my bike with just two wheels and I went really fast and I went around the trail head three times!!! It was great!!! Daddy was right - it is easier on two wheels than on four!!!" All of this said with a breathlessness that told me he was very impressed his own self.
I hugged him right back and told him how proud I was of him.
We had despaired of this day ever coming. This is his second bike. The first one had training wheels and was really too small for him, and he started out okay but then decided that he hated riding his bike. We were really sad about that because both of us love riding and have been waiting for the day when we could all ride together. And it looked like that day would never come. We bought another bike for him in hopes of sparking his interest, but he was adamant - he was NEVER going to ride.
So why the change of heart? Why did he suddenly decide that he wanted to ride his bike (hubby says it was our son's idea to go)? Whatever it was, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I am so glad this happened!!!! He is so proud of himself - and we're proud of him too.
