In the pages of a magazine

When I was younger, I devoured magazines. I was always up on the latest news they cared to
impart. It all started with Seventeen, which
progressed to Cosmopolitan, Self, and Redbook (you know, the racy ladies' magazine). As I got bigger, literally, I leaned towards Shape, Fitness and the occasional WeightWatchers.

Then I hit a dry spell. All those lovely glossy magazines were saying exactly the same thing. It got boring. I would go months without a 'zine, then out of the blue buy a Good Housekeeping or (gasp) a Better Homes and Gardens. I shocked the hell out of myself the first time I did THAT! But I took it as a sign... I was growing up. How to apply makeup or snag the perfect man wasn't cutting it for me any more.

Now, instead of saying that I was growing up, I guess I have to say that I am "maturing." My favorite magazine had become (drumroll, please) the AARP Magazine.

No kidding.

In this month's issue alone: Paul (McCartney) is 64; 31 Ways to Stop Identity Theft; Luxury Train Travel; William Shatner Relaunched; Private Lives: What Single Women Won't Tell You.
Interesting stuff! Now that I know about this, I'm looking for back issues. I know we have a few around here somewhere.

There are benefits to marrying an older man - weirdly enough, AARP Magazine turned out to be one of them!
