Wolf Whistle

Unfortunately, not from these guys....

One of the "perks" of living in town is having neighbors. Somewhere in my neighborhood is a bird that does a VERY LOUD wolf whistle. This is all it can do. The first time I heard it, I was bent over a very stubborn weed when this... whistle... came out of nowhere. I couldn't find the source, so went back to my weeding. Then the whistle again... and again... and again. I realized that it wasn't somebody having a rather rude joke at my expense, but someone's avian roomie.

Then, last week, my husband arrived home from some errand and I was standing there as he got out of the car. The bird went off and simultaneously, my husband and I said with gusto - "Thank YOU!" and burst out laughing. Apparently we'd had the same reaction to our neighborhood audio-lothario. If you can't shut him up, enjoy it.

So, at least it is just a whistle. I once had the pleasure of encountering a bird that said "nice a**" when I bent over in front of it. And then just to add insult to injury, when I stood up with indignation, replied "great rack". The cad of an owner was in tears.

Good thing I put my coffee down BEFORE reading that! Too funny!

I feel the same way about the pack of coyotes living near the creek behind my house on the green belt.

Apricoco, what kind of bird was that? Eep.

My best friend in HS had a parrot that sang songs from Fiddler on the Roof- oh what a beautiful morning....repeated over and over.

And in college we visited a friend who's fiancee had a green cockateel who had a foot fetish (always wanted to sit on your sock) and whistled nothing but the Andy Griffith TV theme song, over and over and over and over....

Did you ever see the bird who can completely mimic all of these sounds from car alarms to chainsaws? It's eerie.

Off to visit Oh the Joys now!:)

No, but we do have a mockingbird in the neighborhood that does ringtones!

I hope you enjoyed Oh, The Joys! She's so many funny, funny posts. Check the archives out. The ones that are "current" are pretty good, but not as funny as some of her recent ones.

Alice, it was a parrot. One that had spent too much time with a very disgusting man. He took so much pleasure in teaching the bird to say dirty things.

Ewww. What a weenie, Apricoco. I thought it was a parrot; wanted to make sure.

Not coincidental pets resemble their owners...

Hmmm. My dog is compassionate, dramatic and loves to run. But my cats destroy everything but look cute, so they get away with it. Hmmm...

LOL! That's hilarious! Too bad you found the source. You could've gone on thinking you had a neighbor who was really into you, lol.

Well, it comes from across the street, but when I questioned the older woman who lives there, she rolled her eyes towards the house behind her. So, I guess I'm glad that it wasn't her....
