Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!!!

We have been bikers from way back. Not motorcyclists, but bike nerds. We have water bottles, gloves, helmets (which we WEAR), and those cute little shorts with padding in the butt. We have ridden the paved bike trails, the sandy off-road trails and the city streets.

When I got pregnant with Z-boy, I stopped riding because my balance was off. After a few years, I started riding again here and there but not on a regular basis.

Now that we live in town, I want to start riding to work on a regular basis. I signed up for next week's "Commuter's Choice" event which is aimed at reducing the number of cars on the road. I signed up for three days of biking and two days of telecommuting. And I get a free T-shirt!

My husband never stopped being a hammer head. He rides almost daily - if not to work then just for the joy of riding. He's got a really nice butt.

My son finally GOT it. It was like pulling teeth to get him to ride when we bought him his first bike. Then we decided that that one was too small, so we got a bigger one. THAT one he rode. He loved it! He and his daddy would go out after school and ride until they came home red and sweaty. It's how they explored our new digs.

Then one day, I realized that with outgrowing his underwear and shoes on a regular basis, my son was also outgrowing his bike. He looked like one of those clowns riding a mini-bicycle around a circus ring. My husband was talking about needing a new bike (he'd managed to kill two very high end ones during the last 11 years, just by dint of daily hard use) and we decided that he would get one and Z-boy would get one - a bike with gears and hand breaks!

Of course, there's gear to go with it... New helmet (no goofy animals or cars on it) and a camelback water carrier because there's nowhere to put a bottle on his bike. Pretty snappy!

What fun I used to ride the bike trails with boys but have gotten out of it. Z is cute all decked out. And be assured that as he grows there will be many uses for that camelback. I have seen the ones I bought used in several different adventures.
