Gettin' Better All the Time

Z-boy and I went to a KenPo class yesterday morning. We were the only ones there not testing for a new belt (since it was only my second class...). Did get our workout in though! I managed 70 jumping jacks, 20 pushups (!), all of the dirty dogs (50), all of the crunches and all of the obliques. I did NOT do the squat thrusts. In addition to the uncomfortable sensation of kneeing myself in the belly, I believe I torqued my back the last time. Those will have to wait until I am stronger. Did regular squats instead.

Because the class was SO big and everyone else was testing, Z-boy and I got an ex-cop named Doug pulled in from the sidelines (his son is a black belt, as is he). He ran us through combination 6, but it was a little different from the one we were shown last week. Z-boy was so into hanging on to me that he spent most of his time doing pushups because he wasn't paying attention. Guess we can't really have a class together, he and I. He's much too worried about claiming me as his mommy to pay attention. By the end of the class, Doug was throwing real punches at my head and I was deflecting them. Unbelieveably satisfying, being able to do that.

Even more satisfying, today I don't hurt the way I did after the last class! My lower back is still a little sore, and under my right arm is a bit sore (some of that is hormonal). But the rest of me is hunky-dory - which is real progress for me! My husband even commented on the fact that my shape is changing a little... the belly doesn't hang quite so low - haha! That actually gives me hope that once this weight is gone maybe I won't require surgery to get my skin back to where it ought to be. Between the walking almost everyday, the KenPo and watching what I eat (I am NOT a food Nazi by any stretch of the imagination though), things are starting to look better.

I'm mighty encouraged.

yahooooo good for you !!

Your body will ache less and less so long as you stay in a routine. If you miss a couple of classes and then go back you will again feel to muscles.

You are doing amazingly well. I am so impressed. I am going to scan those pics today if I can I got busy as this is our thanksgiving long weekend and we have a ton of yard work etc. to do.

Keep up the fabulous work!!

Sayre, that is AWESOME!
My ex-husband jumped on teh karate bandwagon, so I'm definitely NOT joining Big O out there on the mats! How great that you are seeing such immediate results! (and how satisfying to be blocking those punches!)

GO SAYRE!
