Wimpy Twist

During the various gatherings of this past week, toys were pulled out from time to time for the kids. Sometimes, the big kids also got in on the act.

One of the toys was a very odd rod with a big circle on it. I had no idea what it was.

It's called a "Bop It".

"What does it do?" I asked like an elderly aunt who'd never seen a video game or a telephone before...

As Dav demonstrated, Frank explained... It's a little like "Simon" only instead of following the light pattern, you have to do whatever the "Bop It" tells you to do. You pull-hit-twist various parts of the toy on command. It's easy when you first start out because it's slow and you have time to think about what you're doing before you do it. But the longer you do it, the faster it tells you what to do. And you have to do it like you mean it. As Frank said, "If you give it a wimpy twist, you lose."

Wimpy twist.

Wimpy twist.

Wimpy twist.

That phrase has been turning over and over in my brain ever since. I'm looking at what I'm doing and asking myself, "Is this a wimpy twist?"

You see, that game is a wonderful metaphor for life. Sometimes it's slow and easy to do. Sometimes things come at you so fast you don't have time to think, just to react. And if you live your life as a wimpy twist, you lose.

Hit-Pull-Twist like you mean it.

Live-Love-Breathe like you mean it.

It's the only way to win the game.
