Sliding into Home

I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!

I cannot tell you how absolutely thrilling is is to have accomplished 50,000 words in one month. For my trouble, I got a little purple bar on my NaNoWriMo.org author profile (SayreSmiles), the right to display this pretty little banner on my blog:

I also get to download and print out a certificate of completion and fill in my own name! I'm allowed to hang it on my wall or line the bird cage with it - because it's MINE.

And finally, I also get to sleep! After a month of sneaking around, finding spare moments here and there to slip away and commune with my keyboard, I'm looking forward to December and communing with my family, my job, the holiday spirit, and last but not least, my pillow.

But I got a couple of other things out of it too. I got the satisfaction of knowing that I can take an idea and run with it, flesh it out, make it make sense, and hopefully have something that I can take to the next level. The other thing is that I got to do something that I have always wanted to do - write a novel. I always thought I might have it in me but was always too scared to try. It could turn out that I don't have what it takes. When this challenge came along, I got permission to write. Crap, if I have to, but just to get it down on paper. That was the goal. And I did it. It was hard. It was long. There were nights that I propped my eyelids open with caffeine and toothpicks. But I got it done.

I can't wait until next year.

Outstanding!!! I'm doing the happy dance with you. What a wonderful accomplishment, Sayre. You must be so proud and happy with yourself.

Do we get to read any excerpts? Please?

Believe it or not, writing was the easy part. Now I get to go back and edit it (and add some technical information that I didn't have while doing the first draft), which can take a while and once I'm happy with the whole package, I'll be looking for Beta readers to read some of it and give me some feed back. If you're interested (perhaps in February?), let me know. It is a GROWN UP book that deals with some grown up issues - fair warning.

Thanks, everybody. I know it's been kind of quiet around here while I slaved away on my other keyboard. I'll be dropping in a little more now!
