Fun Monday - Queen Sayre

Mommy Wizdom is new to Fun Monday and her challenge for us is short and sweet:

If you were ruler for a day/week/month/year (your choice on the time) you would...

Oh, my! Please, get up off your knees. I am a benevolent dictator, not a tyrant.

Except when it comes to protecting our planet. If we kill that, then what will we do? I will have no subjects!

In order to continue my rule, we would need to make use of the most available power in every locale... sun for the south and wide open spaces, water turbines in places where rivers run, wind power where that is possible... and save the petroleum based power for areas with no resource and for emergency operations.

Mass transit would the norm rather than the exception. Small personal vehicles such as scooters and low power motorcycles and bicycles and feet would be the preferred modes of transportation. I was driving home from my uncle's house today and imagined the highway and the interstates with no cars. Trucks would operate locally, taking their loads off trains rather than running each load down the highway.

People would grow their own food as much as possible and trade with others. I haven't got a green thumb myself (thank goodness for the royal gardeners), but I could sew up some curtains or paint a room for you.

There would be very little trash. Everything would be composted if it were vegetable matter, or reused or recycled if it were not. It can be done! If you had told me this a few years ago, I would have laughed in your face, but now each Friday, we roll out a cart full of paper and plastic and glass to be recycled - and a cart with one bag of trash in it. One. I am amazed - and convinced that it is absolutely possible.

Rather than overrun our sewers with waste water, set up a separate system in every home to reuse greywater for gardens, so that we're only treating the waters that NEED it. Your bathwater could be quite beneficial to the veggies - and the soap will help deter pests.

As ruler, I will do everything in my power to make sure our planet has its "happily ever after."

You say you are running for president! Great Platform!

Do you remember the concept of voluntary simplicity from a thousand years ago? That's actually what you're proposing, it seems. Just living low impact on the planet. Have you found that the simpler you live the happier you are? I have.

We are on an ancient cesspool system where I live so we have been channelling our "grey" water to the field behind us for over a year. No problem for us or the critters at all.

We seem to have a common concern....food...and environment! ;)

Happy Monday!

Yay! Your world sounds far more feasible than mine! It COULD happen if people chose to listen! Here's hoping one day you really will live in that world.

Hey I can't vote for you if you limit your Kingdom?? to the USA, expand your vision to the world.

I am such a bad person. The first thing that comes to my mind is being waited on hand and foot and getting everything I want, lol.

I like your mass transit idea. I have driven the roads alot during the past couple of years and the large trucks do get in the way at times. I am also for growing my own food.

Sounds like a much better world!

You know...it's pretty cool that alot of us here have the "grow your own food" thing on their list. If a handful of FM blogger are thinking that, I wonder how much of the res of the world is thinking the same thing? And how many people out there are really trying to grow their own fruits and veggies? I just wish our county ordinance would allow us to keep a few chickens (for eggs only! I could never kill my own chicken).

Have a great week, Sayre!

This makes so much sense.

Awesome - you're right in line with my thinking! So far, you're hired too! Geez, if we could only make these concept work for real. Small changes make big differences right?

Thanks for participating. I love the photo - BTW.

I would come and live in your country, sounds perfect!

I am sure there are places in our country where this is very much the norm -- and admittedly I have fantasies about moving there! But where are they? The Amish (I live in PA) come to mind. But they are plopped down right in the middle of our gas guzzling, polluting society. I would love to go somewhere for a month that has all these attributes. Great post - glad to have found you on Fun Mondays!

I think that most of your plan is very doable. I guess that we should get started.

Nope, I want hordes of subjects kneeling to me, bowing, flunkies in epaulettes, kissing of my ring...if I'm going to do this, I want the whole nine yards.

Cool ideas. We do have a lot of windpower up here and more areas getting the huge windmills everyday. :)
