Good Reminder

My friend Steph sent this to me this morning... Thanks for the reminder. I need to be more like my son.

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My son sees flowers for mom and blowing white stuff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away.
My son sees someone smiling at him and he smiles back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm, so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My son feels the beat and moves to it. He sings out the words and if he doesn't know them, he makes up his own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My son closes his eyes, spreads his arms and flies with it until he falls to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say "thee" and "thou" and "grant me this," "give me that."
My son says, "Hi, God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet - I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle, I step around it. I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets.
My son sits in it. He sees dams to build, rivers to cross, worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or learn from?

Good one. I like that about my kids. Steven says I am like that for him. He's a "glass half empty" kind of person and I'm a "glass half full" person.

Oh, I learn from Aaron daily.

Great post.

We learn from kids at least as much as they learn from us! Sometimes we teach them things they shouldn't know - like not to get dirty.

I got that email, too. I like it alot. It reminds me to stop and see things through the eyes of a child. and not be so cynical all the time. Thanks for posting it!

Oh I love that one! Thanks for posting it, I enjoyed reading it all over again.

I want a dog that says his prayers too! How sweet is that?
