Hurts So Good

I went back to tai chi tonight.

For one reason or another, I haven't been much lately. Between hurricanes, playing catch up, being tired, mentally exhausted... and just plain forgetting what day it was - I've missed a lot.

Luckily, this is my second time around, so I at least have a clue as to what they're doing. Tonight's class was of medium size, but we didn't have enough set leaders. Guess who got picked to fill in?

"Holy cow, Sue... I'll give it a shot, but I don't know how much I remember or how well I can do it after all this time!"

That brought a few titters from the class. Sometimes I think Sue uses me as comic relief when the class starts getting a bit too earnest and is trying too hard. That can be self-defeating.

Thank goodness for really good peripheral vision. I could just see the other set leader out of the corner of my eye and have a reference of my own. I didn't make too big a fool of myself!

My body is pleasantly achy now - and I actually worked up a sweat! Tai chi may be slow, but if you're doing it with effort and concentration, it really is an exertion. I always wondered about all the damp t-shirts around me (usually the more experienced tai chi-ers). Tonight I found out.

heh..heh.. are you SURE you didn't just forget to use your Degree deoderant? You know.. "never let them see you sweat"? ;) Or perhaps the stress of being in front of all those folks and trying so hard not to look silly put some extra "ooomph" into your workout? lol

Seriously though, I think it's great that you were back at it AND got picked to help. Rock On, girlie!

That sounds cool. I would love to try it. Is it hard?

You're my exercise role model!

I've always wanted to try tai-chi. They offered classes for a short while at our community center but by the time I got around to registering they'd cancelled.
I might get a tape from the library and try it at home.
