Fun Monday - Christmas Just Past

Hey! I'm hosting Fun Monday this week and here is what I wanted to know:

What was the most touching, wonderful part of Christmas for you this year?
AND
What was the craziest, stupidest, funniest part this year?

Most Touching/Wonderful
I would have to say that the thing that touched my heart the most this Christmas was my son's shining innocence and belief in the magic of Christmas.

He understands completely that Santa is not a real person, but that didn't stop him from setting out a stocking, or a present for Santa, along with some egg nog and a treat for his reindeer.

Somehow, the tradition started that ZBoy would write a note to Santa and Santa would write back. I tried to scan Z's note, but my scanner is feeling cranky so I will have to type it out for you:
Sorry about the missing cookies! How are you?
P.S. - I believe! (big smiley face) Thank you!
Santa's response:
Dear Z,
I always love to visit you. You are so thoughtful of the reindeer.
The spinach was a great idea!
'Til next year!
S

ZBoy stayed up rather late on Christmas Eve wrapping presents with his dad before reluctantly shuffling off to bed. I reminded him that Santa doesn't visit unless you're asleep, and he quickly turned out the lights and actually did fall asleep.

The next morning, he found out that Santa had, indeed, stopped by. I drank the egg nog, unwrapped the spinach (and put it away), and stuffed his stocking full of goodies.

The stocking

Thanks to my friend Anna at The Alternative Anna, he had a very special package in his stocking - custom knitted hedgehogs! He pulled out the little package with Anna's signature silverleaf on it and nearly came undone. He'd been asking for his very own hedgehogs ever since I bought some as gifts for some other people.

Hedgehogs

It was quite the haul. Comic books, candy, gingerbread men, hedgehogs, a hex bug, some pocket models... I can't remember all the little things I found to put in there. He was quite pleased - and the magic lives on for another year!

The haul from Santa

And the craziest, stupidest, funniest part of the holiday?

I can't think of any thing that caused raucous laughter or was particularly crazy (except my cleaning), but I could think of something stupid.

The weather! I mean, just look at these guys! Christmas Day. Sitting out on the back deck in shorts and short-sleeved shirts.

It was a very un-Christmas-y feeling Christmas. We were sweating! Usually, it's at least cool, but that was NOT the case this year. And our plans to take off in search of snow? Smashed to pieces since it's warm everywhere within driving distance. And the fact that we now have two dogs. Which complicates any traveling plans we might have made anyway.

A couple of days after Christmas, ZBoy and I were out running errands when he noticed these hats at the drugstore. We bought three of them. Christmas is over and it's time to move on to the next year!

But before you move on, revisit Christmas with our Fun Monday participants below!

Wonderful post, Sayre. Thanks for hosting this week. My favorite photos are ZBoy in the New Year's Hat, and the guys sitting on the porch in shorts, as it should be on Christmas!

Great pictures, Sayre, and I'm so glad the magic will lasst a bit longer...at our house, too.

My post is up. I linked at Mr Linky before I realized it wasn't working.

It almost sounds like a little bit of him still wants to believe in Santa. Hey, so does a little bit in me want to believe, too!

Ty knows about Santa, but still "believes" as well. Love the sweetness of it all! Our Christmas Day was warm as well...the warmest I can ever remember! Yesterday in was near 70! We went hiking in short sleeves!

My most precious moment this year was the wide-eyed look of my 3 year old granddaughter when she truly thought Santa Claus had just flown over our house. Also her wonderment when my husband and daughter told her they had seen Santa at the local Taco John's by her house for lunch on Christmas Eve and how he said he knew a Lakin Abbigail (her name). My husband even had a ticket with Santa's name on it from the restaurant (they always ask for your name to call your order and since my husband looked so much like Santa that was what they wrote on his ticket).

Also, when she (my granddaughter) got home, one of their dogs went out of the front door. When he wanted back in he started scratching at the door and Abby ran and jumped into her bed pulling the covers over her head and told her momma "I have to get to sleep because Santa is here!" I honestly don't think anything gets better than that at Christmas time.

Hey Galfriend ! Thanks for hosting and what a great topic you chose !
Looks like ZBoy made haul with all those great looking fun gifts !

Hey, I have an idea about that bunch sitting on your snow-less deck. I'll FedEx AnodeMan to you armed with my new "microwave." That should do the trick.

We always tell the young ones that "He who believes, receives." Hard to argue with that! I love the look of satisfaction on ZBoy's face as he goes through his Christmas stocking. Why do we love what comes in the stocking best of all?

All the best to you and yours in '09, Sayre.

Great topic - thanks for hosting - and I guess I'll stop complaining when it snows!

Reading this I just had another guilt trip about my lack of enthusiasm this year. My Z did enjoy his haul but it was nowhere near what he is used to. Santa left him a couple of nice presents and his stocking was full of candy. Normally its more like your one. I felt so awful that I just could not wait for it to be over. We had a simple but nice day. Looking forward to the new year and new beginnings.
