Fun Monday - Bookworm

Angela (The Lurchers) is hosting this week. And her challenge is one of my favorite subjects!!!

OK, I know that pretty much all of you out there are bookworms. So for Fun Monday on 2nd February, firstly tell me what book you are reading now. What's it about? Are you enjoying it and why? If not, why not? And secondly, if you were to be stranded on a desert island, what one book would you take with you.

What I'm reading now:

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice.

I admit it - I'm a Lestat fan. I re-read Interview with a Vampire recently and when I was done with that, picked up Lestat. I like Anne Rice's vampire stuff and the Witching Hour series (though the first one is the best of those). I really enjoy her descriptions of everything. I like the characters and the other-worldliness within the world. I'm not sure how many times I've read these books, but when I am really busy at work or home, I tend to re-read stuff because I don't have to pay too much attention to it. When things are slow and I have time to concentrate and mull things over, I like reading all kinds of different books.

I'm also reading Marathon! by James Galloway, on recommendation by my friend Alice-in-Wonderbread. When she challenged me to join her in running a marathon in two years and I told her I was just learning to run, she suggested this book. Very interesting stuff. Motivating too! My heart is becoming a runner faster than my legs, but my legs will catch up soon.

What book I would like to have with me on a deserted island:

The Stand by Stephen King.

Another book that I've read numerous times, but every time I read it, I find something new, think something new... As dark as that book can be at times, it is also a very hopeful book. I also happen to think that it's perfect for the deserted island scenario because much of it is about what drives us to be a society and how people would go about rebuilding one from scratch. What values to you bring along with you? What should be the laws? How does each person function within a new society? Interesting stuff to think about - all wrapped up in a Stephen King novel. Plus, it's really, really long!

Check out what everyone else is reading, or would if they didn't have George Clooney on their deserted island with them - go visit Angela for a list of participants.

Good choices, Sayre. Clooney, that may be cheating.

I picked up Interview with a Vampire at a used bookstore years before the movie came out. I still have it and re-read it now and then. And it's funny because I have The Stand on my bedside table, waiting to read that one again, too! Great minds read alike! (But I will admit I'd rather have George Clooney on the island with me instead)

What do you mean you've never read the Outlander series?!?!?! Get thee butt to a bookstore stat!

You and my daughter would get along so well. She reads and loves the same genre.

Happy Fun Monday

If I see the movie first, I have no desire to read the book. This is the case in the two books you choose. Now the other way around is just the opposite. I'll take George along with my survival book. Can he build a Hut???

I have to check your neck if you like vampires that much ! I hope you are not sleeping in a coffin !
Taking George Cloony on the island if my ship sinks is a far better idea than a book !

Good luck with your marathon. If you're looking for a fun book to read to keep you encouraged or maybe just to show you the fun of it all, The non-Runner's Marathon Guide for Women by Dawn Dais is pretty good. She makes no bones about running a marathon, but she has some fun stories along the way.

And George is such a better choice. :) Intelligent and just fun to look at. :)

That photo looks like George Looney.. ha ha ha.

No way.. a scary book to read alone on an island?

I just went back and amended mine -- I posted after midnight so my mind was asleep and I forgot to include my island book. I chose a man, too -- albeit a fictional one.

Hello there my friend!! Am I still half asleep (maybe) or does your blog have a pretty new layout? It is gorgeous!

Thanks for visiting :-) I am truly taken aback by the number of folks who noticed my absence and stopped by. I had intended to make a "be back soon" post before surgery but things got away from me and I didn't get to do it. *sniff* Anyway, thanks for checking, it means so much.

I didn't have my act together in time for FM this week. It's just as well, since it'd be embarrassing for me to admit the number of books I've started and not finished *sigh* You have some great reads there! Happy FM!!

I haven't read any of the vampire books nor have I read that particular S.K book. My eldest grandson likes his books and has most of them so I might even borrow it.

I've never got on with Stephen King...perhaps I should try him again one day!

I just finished "Dewey - the Library Cat". Now I'm reading "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" - the sequel to "Confessions of a Shopaholic".

I WILL be picking up the latest John Grisham ASAP.

One book on a desert island? Little Women.
AND George Clooney.

I have never read any vampire books, but I do love vampire movies! Happy Fun Monday!

I am not a fan of the vampire genre myself but my daughter LOVES them. I did read the first of the Twilight books but just am not a fan.

Great post, though.

I've never read anything from the vampire genre either, although (and I think I'm supposed to feel a bit embarrassed admitting to this), I did read Twilight recently to see what all the fuss is about.

Confession time: George Clooney just doesn't do anything for me. After watching 'Atonement' last week on dvd, my desert island companion would have to be James McAvoy.

Those are two of my favorite books but I have to say that if I were stranded on an island with George Clooney I wouldn't be doing much reading LOL

Good picks! Once upon a time when I read, it was only Stephen King. Needful Things by far was my favorite book, but made for a horrible movie.

He,he...George Clooney is an excellent choice. The Stand is a good choice for the desert island too. Perhaps, you and George can take turns reading it to each other.

I know what you mean about re-reading books, Sayre. I do it all the time! Especially my girl Jane Austen. Is the Marathon book a combo training/motivation book? Someone else was talking about a book written by a marathoner recently, I'm wracking my brain for the title. It was more than an "On day 21 you shoudl be. . ."

BTW, I scrolled down to check out your newly re-modeled "reading room". Well done--when can you come to Summit Court?

My Fun Monday is finally up if you have time to stop by--DSL and weather problems.

I'm hoping that as my kids get older, I'll have time to read again - blech. I think I would like Marathon. I'll have to add it to my list.

I wanted to invite you to my 14 Day Challenge. It's an easy way to help others and win prizes yourself! I hope you'll check it out and help me spread the word!

Have a great week!

George Clooney creeps me out. (I saw Burn After Reading).
I like all your other picks though.

My elder daughter gave my younger daughter a copy of Interview with the Vampire, which I must borrow & read. Annon adores Darren Shan & his vampire & demon books. I can't run at all, I gallumph. Not sure about a man on a desert island, could I take a dog instead?!
