What's been going on...

I have been feeling a bit uninspired in the blogging department lately.

Part of it is that this last time change has really been kicking my butt. I can't seem to sleep enough and when I'm awake, I do what I must before collapsing. I think it's spring fever.

Lots of things I want to do, but no oomph to get it done.

I'm hoping to get plenty of sleep this weekend and feel more like myself come Monday...

In the meantime, I introduced my husband to "Music and Lyrics" a few nights ago. He's developed a bit of an appreciation for chick flicks (they're not ALL bad!), and pretty much laughed from the opening credits to the end.

But the subject matter really caught his attention. Hugh Grant is a songwriter who is great at the music part, but can't really do the lyrics bit very well. Drew Barrymore is a sometime weightloss center manager and sometime plant caregiver with a flair for words. They hook up to write a song together in a week's time for a Brittany Spears clone.

Back in the 80s... Darling Man was in a band. They played the local bars and had a following (and groupies). He still gets together with some of his bandmates to play music once in a great while, but comes away feeling glad to have played but not like it was going to go anywhere.

He thinks in music. It's amazing to me that he can just come up with stuff on the spot and it's GOOD. He's got a whole album's worth of "dog songs" and lots of other instrumental things that are very evocative.

After seeing this movie, he picked up a guitar and noodled out a little western-sounding tune. Then he turned to me and said, "Write some lyrics for this!"

This would be us...

I accepted his challenge.

For the last couple of days, I've been envisioning a feel, a story, a mood for the music he made. I've got the first verse done and good ideas for a chorus and the next two verses. Lines come to me in my sleep, in the bathroom, in the shower, in the car. It's almost crazy-making. And oddly inspiring.

But it's taking all my brain power at the moment - leaving very little for blogging or letter writing or anything else. I hope I can finish it this weekend.

I think it's good. I showed it to Darling Man last night and he sang it with his music - and started getting a bit misty-eyed. He likes it too.

Could be a whole new career. Also a whole new way of knowing each other. Go for it.

What is funny to me is that the picture actually favors the two of you a bit.

Awww! So cool! By all means, follow your art! Ye olde blog will be here when you are ready. I wouldn't even know how to start writing a song (music OR lyrics). I can't wait to read how it turns out!

I understand how you feel about the time change and all. It's amazing how an hour can screw everyone over- and it really pissed off my two year old.
