Fun Monday - Running Down a Dream

Fun Monday has rolled around again all too quickly (and this weekend has ended the same way)! Lil' Mouse Jill is hosting and wants to know:

Strange Dreams. Do you have any dreams, particularly recurrent ones that you feel no one else has? Or, just tell us about an odd dream you had as a kid.

I never did dream I was naked in an unusual place... But three of my dreams that date from childhood that STILL recur to this day leave my heart pounding - mostly with excitement and perhaps a little fear.

Dream #1

I am standing in a field of tallish grass when I spot a tornado coming. I run for a ditch and lie down in it, but instead of tucking in and protecting my head, I'm lying flat on my back the way you would to watch a meteor shower on a summer's night. The roaring gets louder and louder and the grasses are whipping back and forth over me before standing straight up. The tornado passes directly over me and I can see up into it. It's sucking my eyes, so that I have to squint to keep my eyeballs in my head, but I can't close them or I would miss everything.

Dream #2

Ah, awkward middle school years.... I have never been known for my physical grace, so it's no surprise that this dream starts with me walking down the corridors at my middle school. It's an open school - the corridors are outside and only the classrooms are inside. I'm going down the stairs at the end of one of the corridors when I trip. My books land, smack, on the concrete and I know I'm going to hit a split second after, but I don't. I swoop down close to the ground, but then gain altitude and am flying down the corridor just above head height. Zooming around the corners was the best! I don't know where everyone else was - the school was completely empty but for me.
Dream #3

Running dream - I've had this since I was pretty young. I have never been particularly athletic, but I would have these dreams of running. As fast as I could. Jumping over things, running up walls - I found out many years later that this was called freestyle or parkour.
Still, nothing I would ever actually do. My favorite variation on this dream is the one where I am a four-legged animal. Sometimes a dog, sometimes a deer. Running on four legs is much different from the two-legged version. Faster, smoother, so exhilarating!!!
It was somewhat ironic that just last year, my doctor told me that he'd always thought of me as a runner, though to his knowledge, I'd never actually done that. Further irony that I'm planning on running in a marathon in two years with my friend Christin.
Who says dreams don't come true?

Apparently, the tornado dream is more common than I realized.I am sure that you will realize the dream of running a marathon. I remember you mentioning this in an earlier post.

I love your flying dream.

Sayre, I had trouble getting my Fun Monday post to post. If you'd have a moment to come back to my blog, I've got something up that is more humorous than my last awful nightmare post.

Love the flying dream, they say that is about pursuite of freedom...

Wow, a marathon! How exciting! You've mentioned some newfound running (and cycling?) activities recently and I've been meaning to comment on them. Good for you! My knees are hanging on by a thread (sorry for the icky metaphor) so running is beyond them. But J and I got new bikes last month and are riding whenever the weather allows (which isn't much, yet).

And wow, what interesting dreams! Yep, tornadoes are a common theme, it seems. I have the occasional flying dream, but I don't have them often enough! They are such fun. And your comment on my post was wonderful! "What are you, Catholic?" Brilliant. "Weird and guilty" describes it perfectly. Happy FM to you!

Running up walls?!!!! Oh oh....let's all think Spiderwoman. That would be some great feat.

I completely forgot about Fun Monday this week. But I did post a FUN-mon post, so if you'd like to drop by for a few giggles, you're invited!! Happy week to you.

That's strange that you could run ! In my dreams I am like paralyzed and can't move quick only very very slowly. My legs are soooo heavy !

I was tooo late to write today -- mind just somewhere else.
But I've had similar dreams. there must be some kind of therapeutic release going on in the brain when we fly or run.

I just never ever remember my dreams! They're probably just that boring!

I've read a couple of tornadoes today! I am glad that I don't have that dream! They scare me to death!

For what it's worth, here are my interpretations of your dreams:

Dream #1
You lived in Oklahoma and were trying your best to save a bad marriage....
all in your 20s.

Dream #2
Not sure about this one, but do you remember that time when me and you were in your bedroom and John walked in and I sailed across your double bed with no effort, landing just in front of your closet? And for no reason? That is what the picture you chose reminds me of. LOL!

Dream #3
Running is your passion. You cannot avoid it as much as you try. In the words of some sport's slogan, "Just Do IT!!"

Love ya cuz.

Wow you have some pretty vivid dreams. The last one about running was a good one. This must be a burning desire of yours, since you are planning to run a marathon. I see you are next weeks FM hostess, can't wait to see what you come up with. BTW I am putting you on my blog roll (if you dont mind) I have been wanting to do this for a while now. I enjoy visiting your blog.

Your dreams are pretty amazing-with all the training you will be doing for the marathon I bet the running dream will be recurring over the next couple of years.

Wow, those are some great dreams! I have to admit the first one, with the tornado sort of freaks me out (but then tornados freak me out in general), but the other two, pretty cool. Love them.

Congrats on running the marathon in two years, that's a great goal to have. My friend is running the Boston Marathon for the first time on Monday, and we're all going to cheer her on. Can't wait!
