Fun Monday - Guilty Pleasures? Or Necessities?!

Mariposa has graciously decided to host Fun Monday this week - and I'm so glad she did! She gave me the opportunity to think about my own little guilty pleasures! She says:

Let us share each other's self pampering stories...may they be from little pleasures to guilty pleasures!

Ah... this is a subject I can warm up to!!! My life is hectic. I have a kid, a full-time job, a husband, a weight problem, lots of animals, parents, in-laws, a house... you get the picture. Almost every moment of every day is taken up with taking care of something beside myself.

I learned early on that I need to take time for myself here and there and indulge my whims. The consequences for not doing so are dire - just ask my family. They don't always understand what I do and why, but they let me go my own way here.

GUILTY PLEASURE #1

"Touched by an Angel" is a daily record on my DVR. Saturday mornings, I like to do laundry, watch my show and cry. Yes, cry. Crying is a great stress reliever when timed properly, but is incredibly awkward when it comes on suddenly and unexpectedly - like at work. I try to weep at least once a day (think Holly Hunter in "Broadcast News") so that I can relax and get all the emotional tension out of me. "Touched by an Angel" never fails me.

GUILTY PLEASURE #2

My online life. I blog. I FaceBook. I have some of the same friends and some different ones in each arena. Some nights when I need to talk but can't pick up the phone, there's usually someone online to chat with, even briefly. I have quite a few close friends I've never even MET.

GUILTY PLEASURE #3

Hugh Grant. I just realized this recently. In spite of my affinity for more, er... macho type men (Antonio Banderas, George Clooney, my husband), I absolutely adore Hugh Grant. His bumbling humor makes me laugh - from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" to "Bridget Jones" to "Mickey Blue Eyes" to "Love Actually" to "Music and Lyrics" - when I want to feel happy inside, I just turn on a little Hugh Grant and my whole psyche goes Ahhhhhhh!

GUILTY PLEASURE #4

Nothing relaxes me like a cool, quiet, rainy day, a cup of hot tea, a purring cat and a good book. Unfortunately, those things rarely come together. But I love them when they do.

GUILTY PLEASURE #5

When I need a break from all that rain, tea, purring and reading... I have a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. For me, this is the ultimate comfort food. It's what my mom made for me when I stayed home sick from school (though the tomato soup sometimes had the opposite effect). Especially good with a handful of crisp oyster crackers thrown into the soup.
But... where are the manicures and pedicures and vacation spots? Trips to the spa?
I don't do those. They are out of my reach in terms of money and time. I have better things to spend money on and my time rarely comes in big chunks, so my guilty pleasures are cheap and close to home and take so little time that I can indulge in them anytime I need to.
Need more ideas on how to spoil yourself? Go visit Mariposa and check out the blogs of all the other participants!!!

LOL, It seems I am also guilty of a few of those. Looking forward to reading a book this afternoon. If these kids would only stop messing around and finish their schoolwork. (It seems to be their life mission to deny me my guilty pleasures). Shame on them. Maybe I will just sit in front of them and eat the chocolates I won at the raffles last night. And maybe I will not feel guilty at all.

wonderful pleasures.
I remember grilled cheese & tomato soup when I was a kid -- like comfort on a rainy day. (there were many rainy days growing up in seattle area)

Never thought I'd see wussy George Clooney described as a "macho-type". Loudmouth crybaby wouldn't survive a day in Troll County!

Loved 4 and 5 though!

Except the fact that I wouldn't say "guilty" pleasure I agree with a lot of your pleasures without guilt, lol ! I also adore Hugh Grant and like George Clooney ! Instead of crying I would scream (which I don't do, but I had a friend who attended screaming sessions !) Blogging of course is also a hobby. You know I also had a full time job, a family etc etc. But I survived !

I hear you. I dont have time for anything anymore, not that I ever had time or money for spa stuff, but it would be nice to get my hair trimmed. sigh. I'm a late add, but come visit me! I do get a can of chicken noodle soup every once in a while and try and eat it before baby wakes up! it's a challenge!

OMG. I LOVE grilled cheese sandwiches. Love, love, love. And I love your other indulgences too! I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's self-pampering methods...they are as unique as the individual herself and are simply fabulous! Happy FM to you my friend!

Well Hugh Grant is a little bit girly, but still very attractive- I think it's the accent! Grilled cheese is my favorite comfort food.

Tomato soup and grilled cheese were the foods my mom always fixed when we were sick too. To this day if I'm sick that's the only thing I want to eat.
Do you ever wonder why "me time" is considered a guilty pleasure for women but it's just a given for men?
