I found my thrill...

YEAH, BABY!!! It's blueberry season!!!! After many years of drought, the blueberries have fairly burst off the bushes with all the natural rainfall this spring. My parents have several bushes out at the farm, so I invited Jennifer and Spencer to come out and pick a few...

Oh man... we filled up two buckets and there were still bushes we didn't even get to! I went over there to look and they were just this side of ripe, so I left them. Other family will be by to pick later this week, and some friends of my family will probably be out next weekend - and there's plenty for all!

This was a revelation to Spencer - he picked and picked and picked. I think perhaps one of every three or four he picked actually made it into the bucket. ZBoy took him off periodically to ride around the property in the golf cart but they always came back for more.

While they were busy picking, Deacon took over the shady seat of the golf cart until he was unceremoniously shooed off or shoved over to go for another ride.

While we were out there, Spencer explored everything, including the new and improved chicken coop. All that exploring wore him out... after lunch (which was a marvelous Mexican meal provided by Jennifer) he grabbed his blankie to wander about with him. The chickens were very chatty, which I think freaked him out a little.

Once lunch settled a bit, we went back down to the garden and dug out some Vidalia onions. Oh, they smelled good! Must look up a recipe for onion pie (which I hear is absolutely divine).

That pretty much did Spencer in. He laid down in Deacon's place in the shade and drifted in and out for a bit.

It was a great day at the farm! And we left with a bounty of blueberries, eggplant, onions, eggs and a gigantic zucchini.

Darling Man and ZBoy went back out to the farm today, but not to gather berries. They went to help my dad put up his new antenna. Dad's days of scrambling around on a roof are over, but DM was quite capable of doing what needed to be done. Now, when the satellite is out due to weather, they can switch over and watch digital television over the air.
DM and Z didn't leave empty-handed though. The old basketball hoop that stood sentinel over the driveway was feeling very lonely. The other grandchildren rarely played with it anymore, so it now has a new home in our driveway! I was a bit skeptical... Z prefers computer and video games to actual movement. Even baseball really failed to stir his inner athlete. But shooting hoops with Daddy seems to have sparked something.

They were out there for at least an hour after dinner and when they came in, ZBoy was wringing wet and grinning ear to ear. I made him get in the shower to rinse off and cool down. We may have stumbled on a sport he likes!

OMG~ this sexy person must be a scammer. All my friends seem to have comments in script.

Im loving your day out. Our blueberry bush is just a baby and had two whole blueberries this year. I can't wait for it to grow up so we can eat lots of them. Yum!

I was just looking at my garden today and thinking it was just about time to pull everything out and remulch. Its getting so cold!

Rock on!! ZBoy got his groove on!!!

Oh, and I found this place in Missouri that'll ship hearty blueberry bushes to Texas. But I have to wait until August. So next year I hope to have lovely blueberries, too!!! (They're Dr. Matthew's favorite!!)

Blueberries - Yum!

Onion Pie - I'm a bit of a skeptic on that one.

Isn't it fun to watch when a kid finds something they really enjoy doing!
