Fun Monday - Christmas Music

Cynical Girl is hosting this week's Fun Monday!  Her question:

What Christmas (or other holiday) song would you prefer never to hear again, and why? It could be one song in particular, or songs by a certain singer, or a version of a song you usually enjoy that grates on your nerves. We promise not to judge. It’s your chance to vent.

I actually LOVE Christmas music... or at least I did.  The thing that killed much of my joy in that department is the 24 hour Christmas Music Station that changes every year but starts playing nothing but Christmas music and commercials  - this year before Thanksgiving!  I think a week out is plenty long, but before you know it, we'll have the Christmas Music Station year 'round!  And you never know which station is going to dump its regular programming for this schlock.  You punch the button one day and suddenly THERE IT IS!
Okay... mini-rant over.  On to our regularly scheduled programming (I wish...).

My most hated Christmas song ever?  It's got to be SANTA BABY by whatever female singer wants to sing it.  I think they all have at this point, including Kylie Minogue, Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, and Eartha Kitt. I must say this might be the best rendition of this song I've ever seen/heard, though:

I cannot end this post on that note, however. So I will also share with you my favorite Christmas music. Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas Album is one of the most beautiful ones I've ever heard, but this song takes my breath away every time. Just close your eyes and listen:

Lovely, isn't it?

I took your advice and closed my eyes and listened to the beautiful Veni Veni. What a relief after the soft porn of Santa Baby. That performance doesn't even qualify as music. I see we're on the same wavelength with the commercial rush to jump start the season.

Sex n Santa just don't jive...what message are we sending to our little ones. They can just throw that one away. Loved the rendition of Oh come Emanuel..such a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing Sayre and happy FM

:-) whoa a stripping mrs santa? crazy stuff! I wonder where that came from, like a talent show or something? hmm... I like the traditional hymns myself, and I agree that everyone doing their own version of a particular song gets annoying after a while.

I still can't get over the fact you have a 24 hour christmas station, that's sooooo depressing! Imagine how stir crazy you'd be by the time it came around?

Actually, I wonder what it's like for people who work in stores having to put up with it? yikes!

I second the vote on Santa Baby. EWWWWw.

I've always loved Immanuel. Even as a child we sang it in church.

I've got two exclusively Christmas song stations right now with two more to come (I'm surprised they waited this long).

I love Mannheim Steamroller, any and all of it. Have you ever listened to the Transiberian Orchestra?

OMG ! that's horrible this Santa Baby song ! I never heard it ! It probably never crossed the ocean ! Very bad taste !
I prefer the classical Christmas carols like "silent night" "Oh Christmas tree" etc. I know them all in German, lol !

Yes, I'm on to host Dec. 21, Sayre. Was thinking that those of you who have big families and kiddies would be especially busy that week leading up to Christmas. We'll do something simple.
