First Violin Concert

You can uncover your ears now!!! That's how the teacher for the Strings program began the concert of fifth graders participating in their first ever concert.

It's hard to believe that in just a few short months, my boy, who started out knowing nothing about music or the violin was participating in this momentous event!

Z and I went out to dinner before the show, and his dad met us there. We had to get there early for tuning.

Surprisingly, ZBoy was not at all nervous.

He took his place on the stage and plucked a little (pizzacado) while he waited for everyone else to get tuned up by the teacher. They haven't learned how to do that for themselves yet.

I wasn't sure how many kids were involved in this, but it looked like about 20 kids showed up for the concert. Z says it's about half a normal class.

And now, a couple of VERY short selections from our program:

I was quite impressed with how nice they sounded!

I am thrilled to report that ZBoy wants to continue with the violin, and we are very glad that the middle school he will go to next year offers the Strings program as well!

Oh excellent! What a good thing for these kids to get to experience. Does the school furnish the violins? I was tapping my foot with the second video. Well done ZBoy!
