Under the Stairs

If you've been following along, you know we're in the throes of yet another home improvement project. Darling Man got the pee-board replaced - with a perfect fit!

I thought it might be a good idea to check out the stairs just so we could see what we were dealing with, so after a few false starts, we got the tread on the top stair removed.

Man, it was nasty in there. Cigarette butts, bits of wood, globs of joint compound and tons of sawdust. As long as we were in there though, we cleaned it out.

And that gave DM an idea. No one will ever see it until the next time the steps need to be repaired or until the house is torn down, but the guys decided to do a little art under the stairs.

A very cool idea! By the way, the white "acorn" under the second black animal is actually a big blob of very hard joint compound. Couldn't get it off.

Yoda was fascinated. In fact, he jumped into that space, which apparently goes all the way down to the bottom of the staircase. I was very glad when he finally emerged (though he was covered in sawdust).

The guys told me to paint something too. Here it is:

I don't really know what it is, but Darling Man suggested a primitive madonna figure.

This is our very own time capsule. We laughed and speculated what archaeologists might wonder about the significance of paintings under the stairs 500 years in the future!

What a great idea! One day someone will find it and then spend countless hours wondering why it's there. I love it!
