Baby Steps

My husband went  to work this morning, and I bribed the Boy into going to church with breakfast.  The men at my church put on a fantastic breakfast on Sunday mornings. This week I put on my glasses for the buffet and saw that I was getting a biscuit, grits, hashbrowns and sausage.  Ordered an omlet for my eggs.  The Boy, on the other hand, went to town.  He had all of the above PLUS two bowls of cereal, two pigs in a blanket and a bowl of fruit.  And a donut.  And a cookie.  With apple juice.

He scowled a good bit during breakfast, but was pleasant and conversational when other people joined us.  He brought his book in to read during the service, but without prompting, put it down and listened to the sermon and exchanged the Peace with the people in the neighboring pews.  He also participated in the Communion.  By the time we left (after refreshments and chat in the parish hall), he looked as shiny and happy as my soul felt.

Eventually, I don't think he'll fight me when it's time to go.

Food seems to help men of all ages do many things ;)

Sounds like a good day, Sayre. He's growing up.

I always feel better after going to church. We had a funny sermon this week and I got to sing one of my favorite hymns I didn't even need the music to sing it, which was awesome. I went by myself as Matt wanted to play hooky, but that just meant no prying K away from the toys in the nursery, which was fine with me!

I like how you're letting him find his own way - choosing not to read this time shows he's starting to become interested and curious. Good job Mom!
