A Cue from Past Excursions

Once upon a time, a long, long, long time ago, my parents did something incredibly brave (or stupid, depending on your point of view) and took their children to the UK to visit their grandparents.  At the time, there were four of us kids and we were a handful.  Luckily, Dad was pretty expert in getting us to step lively, and Mom got us to behave.  It was a first plane trip for the kids and the first bomb threat for all of us (Jerry found a message in the bathroom and the plane was put down in Miami until it was cleared).  There are lots of memories from that particular trip but the one I want to talk about right now is our baggage.

We were too young to think much about it and I suspect Mom was vaguely horrified by it, but we visited the home country accompanied by bright orange duffle bags.  They were roomy, squishable and most importantly, they stood out like a beacon against a sea of black, blue and red suitcases.

I'm taking a page from that trip and applying it to mine:

Garish baggage.  Think about it.  Easy to spot.  No one would dare steal it - it's too identifiable.  It's a big plane.  LOTS of bags.  I like knowing mine when it comes out of the chute.

Lois verified the garish-ness for me.  She walked into the family room, spotted the big bag and literally jumped straight up in the air.  If the colors don't get you, the pattern will!

Better be careful...those bags might trigger your visual vertigo!

I always put a bright Christmas ribbon on my suitcases - and after a few years, found that so did a bunch of other people. Garish suitcases are better.
