Okay!!!!! It's time for show and tell; before and after!!!
When we first came to look at the house, the livingroom looked like this:
Not very inspiring. My brother once remarked that even on the hottest day, it was like sitting in an icicle. The room was too cool, to the point of being harsh. Then we moved in...
BEFORE
Yes... the livingroom and the diningroom were the catchall for everything we couldn't figure out what to do with.. including the two old recliners the owner left behind.
IN PROGRESS
I do some weird stuff when I decorate. I love experimenting with paint. The first coat was a medium tan (ponytail), then I went over it with using a sponge roller and the ceiling color, a creamy off-white (crescent moon). The contrast, however, proved to be a bit much. The room looked like something out of a cheap bordello. To fix it, I went over it again with the sponge roller, this time using the original tan, which softened the look up considerably.
AFTER
The room actually looks bigger now, in spite of having a huge upright piano in the middle of it. I still need to paint the ceiling and the foyer, and in both the living and diningroom, I have rust color swags to add to the window treatments.
I am particularly happy with how the diningroom came out. The art on the walls is by my husband and my son.
So now I can relax, right? Nope... That's just two rooms done out of one house. I've still got kitchen, family room, hallway, bathrooms, and one bedroom to go!

Your "before" photo is exactly the kind of decor we have in my house...
Sayre-
Your houselooks gorgeous! I can't wait to see it in person next time I come to town... which will be in about two weeks. Andy, the kids, and I will be coming down for Christmas. Not certain what BJ's plans are. I have to take the kids to their mother's on Christmas eve, but I will probably return to Tally for the day after festivities.
