Fun Monday - Quirky Is as Quirky Does

Fun Monday has rolled around again, and Lisa has emerged from her Chaos to host this week! What Lisa wants to know is this:

A quirk is defined as a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism. We are all unique individuals, having quirks that help make us who we are. I would like to know what your quirks are. Confess to one, confess to ten, you decide. Just come back Monday ready to spill the beans, the rest of the world may look at you like you are from Mars, but you‘re among friends here. We won’t laugh, in fact that eccentricity just may endear you to us more.

Yes. I signed up, with a slightly snarky comment on Lisa's blog:
Me? Quirks? I don't think so... Guess I'll have to ask around. Count me in and I'll tell you what OTHER people think my quirks are!

So this morning, Darling Man, ZBoy and I were driving over to the mall for the 10am showing of Wall E, and I asked DM, "Do I have any quirks?"

After he stopped laughing, he asked, "Good or bad?"

"Either. Both. What do YOU think my quirks are?"

He pondered for a moment and shook his head. "I'm not fallin' for that. You have no quirks that I am aware of..."

Fat lot of help he was.

So now I must ruminate on what my quirks might be.

My husband has stated (in the past) that I could speak volumes with a sigh. According to him, they are usually exasperated or long-suffering sighs. It usually means he's done something wrong (he thinks). My take on it is that I need a second to regroup after seeing some "infraction" (towels on the floor, coffee spilled on the carpet, clothes piled on the ladder in the garage) so that I don't just explode and can summon a more reasonable reaction. Yes, I'm a neat freak. I am also TOTALLY thwarted in my environment because I share it with a man, a boy, a dog, and four cats. The fish doesn't do anything to mess up the house, but the cats regularly shed or throw up and the dog leaves very dirty, half-chewed rawhides around. The boy and the Man are somewhat self-explanatory as they are humans. I, of course, never make or leave a mess (and if you believe that...).

So my biggest quirk is my sense of organization, which is absolutely entrenched in my brain, but shows up absolutely nowhere in my own physical world.

And honestly? That's the only one I can think of at the moment. Probably because I am in recovery and unable to do much more than fold laundry at the moment. It is INTENSELY frustrating to me.

Now go see what quirks other folks own up to - visit Lisa's Chaos!!!

Oh I hear you alright! Know just how you feel! Frustration is my middle name where keeping this place neat is about! No-one else seems to care! (I bet you organise all the cupboards just so as well, and everyone else muddles them up????)

Not me, I don't and won't iron. I hate to dust and would prefer to pay someone else to vacuum (I do however own six dust busters). Hope you up and feeling better soon

With three boys and a dog, Neat was mocked and thrown aside long, long ago. Once in a while a throw her a side-long glance of longing. Some day, my darling, some day.

My neat and clean days are over with (at least for the next 14 years or so). I thought this was going to be an easy topic to write about, but it turned out kinda hard for me, too! I'm sure you're feeling better each and every day :) Have a great week!

Your husband may make messes, but I think he is a very smart man!!!

I wish I could be clutter free, but it just doesn't seem to ever happen. Do you really think it is possible?

I'm reading my Mom's words in your post...because I seem to thrive in chaos...and chaos is the name of my room! LOL

Happy Monday!

I create clutter myself and than I clean it up after a few days. I can be organized in my head but sometimes difficult to make it happen.

Here's for a speedier recovery.

I worked with a lady who sighed all the time -- I just don't think she realized that she'd made it a habit.

speaking of towels -- I would go crazy when my kids put wet towels on their beds. Now they are all "growed" up and have wet toweled kids of their own. (:

With that lot you might need to be a neat freak.

Ha! I am a neat freak too. And I also made the mistake of asking Hubby's advice for some quirks. His answer? "You are hard headed." *hmph*

You're a neat freak.
I am not.
We should get married.

I'm a sigher too!

I had added sighs to my list earlier this morning. Maybe it is a wife thing.

My husband is one of those sighers--I have almost gotten to the point of really being able to interpret them. Which is scary.

Oh that is painfully familiar ... organisation in the brain that doesn't show up in the physical world! I got that! Very frustrating. I share my environment with fish, man, four daughters, house rabbit and two guinea pigs! I've no hope, unless I go off into the sunset with my beloved fish! I don't make any mess either (;-)) ... well, none that bothers me anyway!

ha..ha..ha.. I've determined that there is a "towel on the floor" gene that must run in your family!

Your brother installed extra towel racks for the express purpose of keeping the visiting younguns from leaving their towels on the floor. (I thought it was VERY cute that he thought this would actually work..!)

My FIL sighs big, long sighs. I used to take them personally and try to work out what they meant (ie, what was I doing wrong) ... but now I find they are just exhalations, just like my DH told me!
I think I shall try the long sigh before the intervention in my house. It sounds like a great plan! My mum used to always count silently to ten. If she ever counted out loud everyone would scatter!
Get well soon :-)

Hope you're feeling better soon!

The sighs crack me up. I think I do the same thing! lol

I am a clutterbug and so is Mr B so our house is never neat. It is tidy in a livable way, but not on a showhome way. I can't imagine that happening till my kids leave...ok, I admit it, I can't imagine it happening ever.

Neat freak, eh? Don't ever come over to my house, okay? :)

If being neat is a quirk, then count me in! I loved his ultimate response!

You are neat and organized. I am so jealous.

Alison said...

sounds like you are a neat freak like me..I too, have learned to wait, take a deep breath, before exploding in frustration...

not me, I do not iron unless I have an interview...I wish you lived in our house and helped us out a little, neat is not a word to describe our house, I think being organized is a good thing

Unknown said...

Oh my I speak with sighs too. :) My husband would feel your husband's pain. :)

Thank for playing even if your hubby was smart enough to not help you out. :)

Virtual organization is the best kind.

You'd have heart failure in my house!

Oh, I love a good sigh...unless it comes from my teenager.

Methinks I missed your Fun Monday last week (or my brain is too addled to remember at this point), but I do ‘relate’ to the ‘organization’ that is so clear ‘in your head’ but doesn’t manifest itself in your physical environs.
Hugs and blessings,
