The Second Half of My Birthday

Now... where was I?

Oh, yes! When four o'clock rolled around, Darling Man, ZBoy and I found ourselves at the Crystal River restaurant with Mom and Dad. Since I hadn't actually eaten a proper meal all day, I was VERY ready to have a great dinner. And I did!

Broiled scallops, cheese grits, hushpuppies and steamed broccoli (with cheese sauce - very naughty, I know but it's my birthday!) Absolutely delicious!!!
Just because I can - pictures of my beautiful boy decked out in his baseball uniform:

The bleachers were hard... and a brisk wind blew, making everyone a bit chilly. Mom wished for a jacket, but we hadn't brought one along.

Pop, on the other hand, came prepared, wearing a nice warm sweat shirt! He sat on those bleachers and watched my boy play. He likes to be there for every game.

There are two extra kids on the team this year, so there will be a bit more sitting out and it may be a couple of innings before any one kid gets to bat. Finally, it was Z's turn. He warmed up in the circle:

and though he didn't hit the ball, he did get walked. He went to first base. Then he got to second base. Then there were three outs and that's as far as he got.

Dad, Mom and I left before it was all over. Mom was cold and Dad's knees weren't happy with sitting on the bleachers for so long. Apparently we missed ZBoy making a pretty good play in the last inning. His team won by one run.

Mom made my birthday cake from scratch (a first for her). It was low sugar and very cocoa-y (not too sweet, which is the way I like it). And she made a chocolate glace which should have cooled somewhat hard, but stayed on like a thin icing instead. And we had strawberries for the top. It. was. wonderful!

Apparently the baking powder was a little dead, so the cake didn't rise like it should have but the consistency was like a bread pudding - a REAL chocolate bread pudding. Absolutely amazing. Will have to find dead baking powder when I make this (Mom is sending me the recipe) so that I can do chocolate bread pudding too!

ZBoy loved it - and managed to get it all over his face too. The somber look is actually from me and his dad telling him it was time for a shower and bed.
It was a really great day - I hope all my birthdays can be so nice!

That dessert looks great. And Z-boy is adorable, as usual.

I can't believe it's COLD in Florida. That doesn't make sense to me.

That looks like a great meal and that cake looks REALLY good.
We're having weird weather over here too - hot one day, cold the next. It's hard to know how to dress these days.
I love the last pic of ZBoy - he looks sweet and sad all at the same time LOL

how does baking powder die?

Is there a recipe for killing it?

I am very confused....
