We have a friend who DNA tested his dogs and we thought it would be fun to see what our dogs were - because honestly, we couldn't really tell WHAT they were. Guesses, but no hard facts.
One we got from my stepson, whose backyard was so tiny that she was getting neurotic. When he got her, he was told that she was a shepherd/lab mix.
We didn't think so. She didn't look like she had lab in her at all. Her bones are very fine and she has running dog shape - like a greyhound or a whippet. The ears are very shepherdy though, so we bought that part.
Turns out that she is (from most to least): chow, shepherd, Chinese sharpei, Brittany spaniel, and poodle. Poodle! Not what we expected at all!
And Revan? We guessed Golden Retriever plus something, and the lady who adopted him to us from Big Dog Rescue thought Australian shepherd was in there too. As he grew, and grew, and grew (!) we wondered what giant dog was in the mix - Newfoundland? We were very curious about him.
This big boy is (most to least): equal parts chow, English springer spaniel, Siberian husky - then German shepherd, then Parsons' Russell terrier. Not a single drop of Golden or lab. Again - we were amazed.
Aren't they beautiful?

Wow! That's a heck of a mix! But Poodle!!??
And yes, they are beautiful!
What a crazy mix- I love it though, they are very cute!!
BTW: I've lost track of Fun Monday, where can I sign up?
I can definitely see the chow and shepherd in the first one, and the springer spaniel in the second. Amazing what you can find in their genes, huh? Of course, the same could be said of us humans!
Yes, they are beautiful!!
I would have sworn Revan had Golden in him. With Kita (insert correct name/spelling here), I see Asian... NO! I see hairless cat. Sorry. It must be the big ears.
What fascinating breed combinations! I wonder what I am?
What a cool thing to do! It's amazing...I look at their pictures and just don't see those odd combinations...I just see two really cute dogs who are very lucky to live with people who love them!
Thats interesting. I see shepherd in the first one, and I could have sworn golden retriever in the second. They look very well cared for and happy.
My mom has (had?) a basset hound/sharpei mix and is the funniest looking dog I have ever seen.
How does one get her dog DNA tested and is expensive? I have an adopted mutt that I'd like to find out about.
what does that cost?
Our neighbors dog looks somewhat like that - and we sort of think she has sharpei too. Her tongue is purple!!
Hard to believe that they are both chow! Gorgeous dogs, though, both of them.
