Fun Monday - The New Fall Season

Tis' time for another edition of Fun Monday!

Janis at Jan and Jer is our hostess this week, and she poses a rather timely question:

Since September is just around the corner, all the TV shows will be having their premiers throughout the month. What kind of TV viewer are you? Do you like sitcoms or do you prefer drama. Are soap operas your cup of tea or murder mysteries. Game, variety and reality shows are big this year too. These are just a few examples. Share with us your favorite shows and why you like it or them so much.

Oh, the excitement! Oh, the hype!

Oh, the boredom...

In spite of being "in the business", I have discovered in the last couple of years that I don't really care much for TV. I remember the days when we waited with bated breath to see who actually did shoot JR or if Meredith and McDreamy would ever manage to have a normal relationship. But after hanging off that cliff like Sarge, over and over again, I finally decided it was time to let go.

In the past year, my television viewing has consisted mostly of The Weather Channel, some DIY-type programs, How Clean is Your House?, and old 80s movies. I've even stopped recording "Touched by an Angel" because I've seen all of them several times now. "How Clean is Your House?" is about to go the same way.

"Desperate Housewives" reruns keep my company at work, but since they don't seem to be adding the new seasons in their reruns on Lifetime, I'll probably stop having that on soon.

I do admit to one guilty TV pleasure. I love "Drop Dead Diva". I don't know if it's because it's a lawyer show with a twist, or because I enjoy the premise, or because I really like Brooke Elliot who stars as a plus-sized lawyer harboring a model's soul in her cushy body. I also got a kick out of Fred, the Angel, but he seems to have disappeared from the series - at least for the time being.

But I DVR that too so I don't have to sit through commercials. I am afraid I am terribly impatient with the entertainments offered these days. I'd rather be doing something or learning something or writing something than sitting around watching TV.

Honestly, I think that if I were to get into watching TV, I'd like to watch what we're offering - a PBS station. I can always record "Drop Dead Diva" at work, but like all the other shows out there, I suspect I will tire of it before the season is out.

To this end, when I realized that we needed to really tighten up financially, I broached the idea of killing our satellite service and just living with over-the-air television for a while (saving about $100 a month). Darling Man is skeptical though. While we don't watch much TV, the stuff we do watch isn't over-the-air fare. Still, it's an experiment I'd like to try. Now I just have to convince Darling Man and ZBoy that the results will be worth it.

UPDATE: FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED....
DROP DEAD DIVA IS ON SUNDAY NIGHTS AT 9 ON LIFETIME WITH REPEATS AT VARIOUS TIMES DURING THE WEEK.

Now you've piqued my interest even more about "Drop Dead Diva", Sayre. Have been seeing it in the TV guide and wondering what it's all about. That's brave to give up cable. My friend J says she can go to sleep in front of free TV just as easy as for pay. . . I'm with you on PBS though--love their programming and watch it a lot.

I'm with Faye, gonna have to check out this Drop Dead Diva. Sometimes I feel like i could live without cable, most of the time I watch the local stations anyway, but the hubs could not do it! I agree with you on PBS, I love watching the Do- Whop concerts. Thanks for playing Sayre and Happy FM

I don't watch too much tv either, Sayre. Especially during the summer months. We lived 3 years without cable and honestly it wasn't that bad. We only ended up getting cable because we wanted the high-speed internet. We got a package deal with the cable company.

yes ... not many hours in front of the tube here, either.

Sometimes we get on the National Geographic & discovery channels kicks.

I think I'd have to pack my bags and be ready to be kicked out if I even remotely mentioned dumping the cable!! [notice how I used 'remote'ly?] You GO GIRL!!!

My F M is now posted. If you can find time, won't you stop by? Have a great week!!

LOL! I am not too surprised at your answers here! We dumped our cable a few years back. Nearly killed the kids but they are used to it now! Mind you they are computer nuts so have lots of downloads to watch! LOL! Now me! I always have the library!

J'adore PBS. Where else can I get my Keeping Up Appearances and Ballykissangel fixes? I love that they have so much British and Irish programming.

On another FM post (Mama Drama, I think) the writer mentioned Sesame Street. I watched SS, but I was a big fan of Mister Rogers. He informed kids without talking down to them, and his message was strong and positive without being saccharine/sickly sweet. Bravo PBS, and happy FM to you!

I think we are about the same kind of TV watchers, lol ! I too have a problem of cancelling the satellite service because I get German channels through it, which I wouldn't have with the normal cable TV in Belgium.

Now you have me curious about drop dead diva and I have to go google it!

I haven't had one of those devices since 1988. I feel no urge to watch one when I am somewhere that has one on. That just tells me there is no conversation in that place.
