Greek Food Festival... aka shopping without my glassses

Every year, we have this amazing event called the Greek Food Festival, put on by our local Greek Orthodox Church. It's mostly tents with people selling food (gyros, spanikopita, moussaka, baklava), with another tent full of tables and chairs and a stage where music is performed and dancers dance in Greek costume. It started out as a small fundraiser for the church and has become, for lack of a better word, a phenomenon. I don't know of anyone in town who hasn't gone at least once - and most people I know go every single year. I've missed the last few years myself.

This year, I took ZBoy and we joined my friend Jennifer and her husband and son and we cruised the food booths for Greek delicacies. We went early to beat the crowd - because it really does become crowded after 5pm!

Our timing was perfect!

There was a new addition this year - booths with goods for sale. Spangly scarves and belly dancing out fits, CDs of greek music, hats, jewelry, clothes, figurines - it was hard to pass up. ZBoy spotted a bowl of bracelets for $5.00 and told me I should get one. They were charm bracelets and I hadn't had one of those in a long, long time. So I picked one out, paid for it and wore it out.

Over the next few hours, I admired my purchase and smiled at the silver-like bangle on my wrist.

Pretty, no? Well, at some point, I put on my glasses and made a startling discovery. I looked at the charms that I'd assumed were some kind of greek figures or symbols...

Whatever does this stand for?

Interesting...

Wait a minute... that looks like... a little goalie!

You have GOT to be kidding me!

I bought a HOCKEY charm bracelet at the Greek Food Festival! I think I'd better wear my glasses while shopping from now on!
P.S. I still like the bracelet and plan to wear it. And we had an awesome time no matter what!

LMAO! I didn't see you buy that. How funny. Admit it- you just want to be a hockeymom like Sarah Palin. I always suspected...
