Wedding Preparations Underway

The wedding is next week, so I guess it's time to crank it up a notch!  Time to get cranking on arrangements and such.

There are even last minute invitations to send out.  With a week to go.

Since I'm in charge of all things flowers, I decided to go with silk for the centerpieces.  That way I can get it done ahead of time and it'll be one less thing to worry about on the big day.

Saturday, my friend Jennifer (who is a whiz at planning events) came over and we looked at all the odds and ends I'd collected for this project.  We have six tables, so I bought six "candle gardens" from a discount store as a jumping off place.

This idea was inspired by a cousin's forays into ikebana - an oriental flower-arranging artform.  She had one that really spoke to me - a round form with rocks and tiny flowers poking up in between.  So I got the round forms (wooden bowls), bought a bag of pond pebbles from the home improvement store and some small yellow marigolds and dogwood flowers from the craft store.  Slightly bigger flowers made it feel more wedding-y.  We added some rocks to the votive holders to raise the candles up and added some fill sand to steady them.  Then I thought maybe we could add some sand around the rocks a little - which gave it  kind of beachy feel.  I'm very pleased with the overall effect.  So, centerpieces - DONE!
I still have to do the arrangements for the cake table, which will be easy - I just need to add rocks and sand to the vases that have a hydrangea bloom and some daffodils.  I also have flowers for the cake itself.

And there's still boutineers and corsages to do.  Silk roses and greenery (and florist tape).

Then on wedding day, I'll go pick up some fresh cut flowers for the bouquet and altar flowers.  Again, simple arrangements - and I'm thinking of something with sunflowers for the bridal bouquet.  They have some beautiful ones at Publix.

I hope the bride and groom like what I've done!

Have you always had comment moderation? I never realized that before...

Or just for this post? Haha

I have comment moderation on this blog. I started getting a lot of spam and I was spending an inordinate amount of time deleting it. Figured moderation would be easier. Don't have it on the other blog, but if the spammers discover it, may have to.

They will love what you have done, not only because it will be beautiful, but because they love you as much as you love them.

My very best wishes to the happy couple and much joy to you!

The table arrangements are one of the most difficult decisions. Good job on something simple, yet lovely. I always love textures. I used to work at a flower shop and some women are Bridezillas, but anything someone else does is always appreciated!
