Fun Monday - Words of Wisdom

In their final week of hosting, the Georgia Girls want to know what advice your mom or dad passed on to you that you still use today.

You know?  I can't think of any.  I know that over the years they've given me LOTS of sound advice about everything from how to handle money to how to handle men.  A lot of it I took, some I ignored.  But I know I live by some of it because back when my stepson came to live with us, I'd have that weird, out-of-body experience that happens when you hear your parents' words coming out of your mouth.  But that was the way I knew to handle young men, so I had that experience over and over again.  And the really bizarre thing?  Hearing your stepson say the same thing to his daughter that I said to him - and my parents said to me.

Because I've already said it to my stepson, it sounds more like my own words when I say them to my son.  I'm betting that if he were asked the same question, he wouldn't be able to come up with anything either.

My parents are wise.  I'm learning to be...  from the masters.

Your story reminds me of when I hear my daughter try to reason with her 5 year old daughter . . . I just smile.
My Mon Funday is up . . . be sure to watch the video. I'm sure you've seen it, but it never gets old.

Is this called parenting by osmosis? :-) Hopefully what you hear from ZBoy is the best you learned from your parents. My only vaguely related experience with parenting is in dog rearing. I'm doing a better job with Willie--my fourth---than Zack the first.

Its a shame we only think our Parents are right when we get older.

When one of the Georgia Girls suggested this topic, I thought I can't think of anything either, so I'm glad one of the other gals answered it. She is an only child, and both her parents were gone by the time she was 30.

How to handle money and men? Priceless! It's interesting how we have to pass tests to get a drivers license, but have children without batting an eye. Okay, maybe a few of us batted our eyes.

My mother didn't say this, but if she had, The teen years would have been easier on both of us--that is, if I had listened. Remember it when you have the chance to mentor Kiley.
"Don't tell all you know and don't show all you've got!"
Good luck.

I LOVE your Mom's advice!! In fact the Island Girl will hear that from now on.
Like you I hear my parents coming out of my mouth often and it still surprises me every time.
I do remember clearly my Grandmother saying that a lady should ALWAYS paint her toenails.
My Aunt Mildred always said "Young ladies do not chew gum - we are not cows we are ladies.
And my Mother has always said NEVER EVER park in a handicap spot because that will cause bad karma and one day you'll be handicapped and have nowhere to park.
My kids are going to remember me saying "Because I said so, that's why"

Some of our parents advices do sound a bit old fashioned. But after having worldly experience we come back to that old advice.
Thanks for stopping by my blog:)
