Wedding Wrap-Up, Part 1

Wedding weekend kicked off with the rehearsal dinner. My dad's friend Blan volunteered his house for the party and it was the perfect venue! He has a large back deck and lots of tables and chairs (entertaining at his house was a normal activity) and plenty of room for people to move around.

Almost all the family showed up (John is still stuck in Kuwait), including out of town family. The priest and his wife, the photographer, some of Matt's friends.. It was very festive.  I love the look on Mom's face - she's just so happy with how everything went!  We feasted on fried shrimp/catfish/chicken with cheese grits, hushpuppies, coleslaw, baked beans and key lime pie for dessert.  It was absolutely delicious!

Andy brought his fiance Angi along with him.  It was my first time seeing her for real -- he'd brought her by to meet us a few months ago, but they were at the house for maybe ten minutes - not long enough to get a real feel for the person.  With the extended presence, I can see that she is a perfect match for him.  Gives as good as she gets - which is VERY important when dealing with this family!

Darling Man is usually somewhat reserved around my family.  He fits in, but mostly in the background.  On this night, he actually walked around and visited with most everyone and laughed quite a bit.  Amazing for the number of hours he's been putting in at work lately - he was exhausted but had a good time.  My brother Jerry (in the black shirt) was chosen as best man, which I think shocked him.  He really has no idea how we feel about him.  He is the most honest and honorable person I know.  He will go out of his way to help anyone.

Matt gave a wonderful impromptu speech, which enumerated Jerry's many stellar traits.  Jerry was embarrassed, but pleased too.  Matt also thanked everyone who was there, everyone who had worked to make this marriage ceremony happen, everyone who traveled to be here with them as they exchanged their vows in the same chapel where our parents got married 50 years ago.

It was a fun and amazing night!

Thanks for sharing, it's great to read of happy occasions.
I'll admit I puzzled over some of the foods; as over here, Hush Puppies is a shoe company
